The 'Ping' golf club

The 'Ping' Golf Club: An Overview

One of the most important things that a golfer should pay attention to is his golf club. According to experts, it could be the main reason for being unable to hit the ball and that's exactly why and how the 'Ping' golf club came into being.

Karsten Solheim was the one who invented the 'Ping' golf club. The story has it that Karsten was practicing golf but was unable to hit the ball. However, he kept at his practice till such time as he began to design and experiment with his very own putter so he could improve his game. While designing his own putter, the thought never crossed his mind that one day it would be known worldwide. By the year 1959, his experimentation with his putter evolved into a superb design. While researching a name for his putter, he obviously was impressed by the sound of his putter at contact and proudly declared to his wife that he would name his putter after the originating sound, viz. 'ping'. The very same year, the magazine, 'Sports Illustrated', in their August issue, published an article on the 'Ping' golf club, calling it a musical putter.

This was the start on the road to success for the 'Ping' golf club. At present, the manufacturing center, Karsten Manufacturing Corporation, is located in Phoenix, Arizona. There are more than 400 patents registered for the 'Ping' golf club and each one of the designs is innovative and original in its concept to fit the need of a golfer. Here are some of the key patents and products of the Karsten Manufacturing Corporation.

In the year 1962, the 'heel-toe' weighting club was granted a patent. This design was the one that revolutionalized modern design for golf clubs manufactured for today's market. In 1969, another patent was taken out for a 'perimeter weighted investment-cast iron'. The reason for this type of club is that perimeter weighting increases the moment of inertia and thus when a ball is not struck squarely on the face it makes the club more forgiving. Another innovative feature of the 'Ping' golf club was the application of investment casting in the manufacture of the 'K Series Irons'. This is not really a new technology. In fact, the old name for it is the 'lost-wax' process. The purpose of this method was to ensure precise detail and consistency to all parts of the club. Another patent taken out is the 'Cushin Selective Filtering Insert. This is an invention which screens out and disperses the unwanted frequencies that can harmfully affect muscle, bone, and connective tissue. Thanks to this invention, the golfer receives less vibration with greater feel on each shot.

The 'Ping' golf club is popular and widely used because of its innovative, ever-changing yet reliable design which is well appreciated by golfers. Lost one of your ping golf clubs? Don't worry! Every 'Ping' golf club has a serial number etched on it. If ever there is a need to replace a club, the company has the exact specs., as at the time of manufacture, on file and could actually build a new club to match your set.
